Sarcococca confusa
Common name: Christmas box, Sweet box.
AGM  (Award of Garden Merit)


Family                        Buxaceae
Height & spread      200cm x 100cm 
                                    Evergreen, 
 Soil                            Moderately fertile, humus rich, moist but well-drained. Full sun  
                                    is tolerated if the soil remains moist.
 Aspect                      deep or partial shade
 Hardiness               Fully hardy 
Care                          Prunne annually after flowering to maintain shape. Remove 
                                   suckers and dead and damaged growht in mid-spring.

This species, from West China (probably) is a dense, rounded, bushy shrub with eliptic, tapered, glossy dark green leaves, to 6cm long. Cluster of about 5 very fragrant white flowers are borne in winter, followed by spherical, glossy black fruit.
If you want a seriously intense exprience then you should stand about few metres away from this shrub on winter day.
