Ophiopogon planiscapus 'Nigrescens'
Ophiopogon planiscapus 'Nigrescens'
 AGM  (Award of Garden Merit)

Family                        Convalliariaceae
Height & spread      20cm x 30cm
                                    Evergreen perennial
Soil                            Moist, well-drained, humus-rich, slightly acid soil
Aspect                       Full sun or partial shade
 Hardiness                Hardy

Clump-forming, spreading, rhizomatous perennial with strap-shaped, curving, leathery almost black leaves. Short bell-shaped, racemes of pale purplish flowers in spring, followed by dark blue-black fruit.

Looks good interplanted with small wandering perennial, lacy foliage and fragile pink flowers. It also makes a good foil for dwarf rock garden bulbs in spring.
