Full Design - How I work
The full design process is divided into the following stages:
1. Consulatation
Initial Consultation & Client Brief (free of charge) I will visit you to discuss your landscape requirements, taking into account your ideas, preferences, and any specific challenges within your garden. We will also discuss your budget at this stage. During the visit, I will share sample drawings and photographs from my portfolio of completed projects to help illustrate possible approaches and styles.
As every garden is unique, it is not possible to provide accurate cost estimates by phone or email prior to—or in place of—this initial consultation. The time required to produce a detailed outline plan will depend on the size and complexity of the garden. However, as a general guide, a small to medium-sized garden typically requires approximately 15–25 hours of design work.
Should you, as the client, decide to proceed, a written quotation along with a copy of my Terms and Conditions will be provided following this visit.
2. Site Survey
To survey any plot properly, it is essential to take accurate site measurements and to assess existing conditions such as planting, boundaries, and ground levels.
Where a site is particularly large or complex, it may be necessary for the survey to be carried out by a professional surveyor.

3. Concept plan & 3D Garden Walk
Once the survey is complete, I will produce an initial concept design plan for us to review and discuss at a follow-up meeting. This will include perspective views and a 3D garden walkthrough to give you a clear sense of how the design will work in your space. This is one of the most important meetings in the process, as it ensures the design aligns with your brief and provides the opportunity to request any changes before moving forward.

4. Detailed Construction drawings
Once you have given your approval for the garden design proposal, technical drawings along with detailed specifications will be created to guarantee that the garden is constructed according to the appropriate standards and aligns with your approved design.
If needed and requested- I can also prepare site cross-sections, setting-out plans, specifications, and scope-of-works schedules. These documents allow landscape contractors to submit comparable tenders, ensuring a clear “like-for-like” basis for the construction and planting of your garden. This level of detail is typically only required for larger or more complex projects.
4. Masterplan
Once the concept plan is approved, a set of detailed drawings will be produced.
Following this, the landscape contractor can be appointed to offer a quote for landscape services.

6. Planting plan and the sourcing of plants
Once the final plan is established, a planting scheme can be developed that considers soil types, orientations, conditions, and any preferences you have indicated regarding the specific plants you wish to include in your garden.

A maintenance schedule is a valuable aftercare package that keeps you fully informed about the care of all your new plants, helping your garden thrive long after planting.
Supervision of Contractor Work
Once the plan has been approved and a contractor appointed, I am available to supervise the implementation of the work in your garden. This service is particularly useful for more complex projects and for clients who prefer support in managing the process, ensuring the design is executed exactly as planned.
